Our Story

Born in Henan, the heart of Chinese medicine and the land of the goddess Nüwa, our herbal healing incense brings the ancient wisdom of "medicine and food homology" to your breath, offering a gentle path to calm your nerves and restore balance in a chaotic world.

Yao Shi Tong Yuan aka Medicine and Food Homology

In traditional Chinese culture, there is a timeless concept called Yao Shi Tong Yuan — Medicine and Food Homology. It believes many daily ingredients are not just for taste, but also nourish the body and balance health. Ginger warms the stomach, mint clears the head, lotus seeds calm the mind. Food and healing share the same root, gently and naturally.

What is the Chinese Herbal Healing Incense?

This wisdom extends beyond eating to scent healing, which we call Yao Xiang — Herbal healing incense. Using natural medical herbs such as agarwood, angelica, chuanxiong, and agastache, their pure fragrances gently soothe tension, improve sleep and refresh the mind. Just as food nourishes the body, these natural scents nourish the spirit.

Chinese herbal healing incense is not simply perfume or air freshener; it is a living heritage of aromatherapy in traditional Chinese medicine and an extension of the concept of "medicine and food sharing the same origin" into the respiratory system.

It originates from the ancient wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. As early as the Shang Dynasty, there were records of fumigation for treating diseases in oracle bone inscriptions. The Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica further states: "Fragrance is the essence of Qi. When the righteous Qi is abundant, it can dispel evil and filth."

The core of the Chinese herbal healing incense is "selecting the right herbs for preparation". We strictly follow the ancient methods, selecting natural herbs such as Agarwood, Angelica dahurica, Ligusticum chuanxiong, and Patchouli, that are both medicine and food. Through specific combinations (the principal, the deputy, the assistant, and the guide), when the herbs are burned or smelled, their "four natures and five favors" enter the meridians through the nasal cavity and skin and act on the internal organs.

The Chinese herbal healing incense emphasizes "Qi," the vital energy that harmonizes blood and balances yin and yang. A wisp of medicinal fragrance entering the nose is not only elegant but also a silent "internal treatment," using the gentle power of herbs to unblock blockages and soothe the mind—a health philosophy ingrained in the Chinese psyche.

Attributes and Efficacy

The core attribute of the Chinese herbal healing incense lies in its dual effects of "herbal intervention" and "energy modulation".

First, it has physical purifying power. Traditional Chinese herbs believe that "fragrance dispels foulness." Many aromatic medicines, such as Atractylodes lancea and Artemisia argyi, have volatile components that can effectively inhibit germs in the air, purify the environment, and protect the human body from external evils. This is the wisdom of the ancients in dealing with epidemics.

Secondly, and more importantly, it possesses a healing power on a spiritual level. Through the sense of smell, the medicinal aroma molecules act directly on the limbic system of the brain, which is the center that controls emotions and memories.

Soothing and Sleep-Aiding Ingredients: Ingredients such as agarwood, mimosa bark, and poria cocos can regulate GABA and serotonin, helping to relax tense nerves, calm chaotic thoughts, and thus improve sleep quality.

Awakening the Spleen and Relieving Depression: Ingredients such as sandalwood, bergamot, and mint, with their refreshing and penetrating properties, can dispel the depression in the chest, awaken the senses dulled by stress, make people feel refreshed, and turn their mood from gloomy to sunny.

It doesn't roughly mask odors or suppress emotions, but rather acts like a gentle therapist, guiding the body back to its own rhythm through breathing, achieving "gentle healing" from the inside out.

Why Vigor Nüwa?

Many people ask me why it's called Vigor Nüwa?

Nüwa is not only the goddess of my hometown, but also the "source of Eastern Healing" in my heart. Legend has it that she molded humans from clay and refined five stones to mend the sky. That compassion and power to nurture all things is deeply imprinted in my heart.

I grew up in the streets and alleys of Henan. In my childhood memories, every summer, my grandmother would sew a floral sachet filled with Atractylodes lancea and Angelica dahurica from the pharmacy, and hang it above my bed, saying, "It repels insects and calms the mind." That bitter yet gentle herbal fragrance was the secret to peaceful sleep throughout my childhood.

Later, I moved to Hong Kong. In the urban jungle of towering buildings, I found that my friends were all very anxious. They relied on coffee to stay awake and on alcohol to fall asleep, but forgot the most primal and gentle way to heal—breathing.

I recalled the scent of my grandmother's herbs and the legend of Nüwa mending the sky. We cannot change the high-pressure environment we face, but can we, like Nüwa, "mend" a protective barrier for ourselves to find peace?

So I returned to Henan to seek out veteran herbalists and learn ancient formulas. Vigor Nüwa was born. I transformed the oral concept of "medicine and food sharing the same origin" into the inhaled concept of "odor healing." Each incense stick contains the essence of authentic Henan medicinal herbs. I want to use the power of these plants from the Central Plains, like Nüwa protecting her people, to protect the body and mind of everyone struggling in the city.
